The International Narcotics Research Conference (INRC) provides an international forum for scientists, clinicians, and other researchers interested in all aspects of opioid pharmacology and function as well as other classes of narcotic drugs as well as cannabinoids, alcohol, and stimulants. INRC held their first official meeting in July, 1969 in Basel, Switzerland as a satellite of the triennial meeting of IUPHAR. Since then, the INRC has expanded its membership and continued without interruption for 45 years, attracting internationally-renowned scientists to present research that at times has fundamentally changed the field. It has always been an intimate meeting where scientists from different areas of specialty can converse to advance narcotic research to identify novel strategies for treating such diseases as addiction, chronic pain, and mood disorders. A fundamental philosophy of the INRC community is to engage trainees and highlight the contribution of young scientists. Within the meeting agenda, the organizing committee always makes efforts to include post-doctoral trainees and graduate students in organized symposia and provides ample opportunity for engaging discussions between senior scientists and trainees. We are thus honoured to bring this prestigious meeting and world-renowned scientists in Montreal for the 45th meeting of the INRC.
