The pre-conference, MDC Medical & Scientific Summit, will be held on Friday November 6, 2020 and tailored to neuromuscular clinicians, healthcare professionals, scientists, pharmaceutical partners and members of the new NMD4C (NMD For Canada) Network. The pre-conference will bring together establishing and emerging members in the field of neuromuscular disorders (NMD): researchers conducting basic and clinical NMD research, neuromuscular specialists and allied health care professionals, and pharmaceutical industry partners with NMD-relevant medicines. Similar to the successful MDC SMA Summit held in November 2019, important discussions will be had to highlight advances in the field, areas for change and foster discussion and collaboration within the NMD community.

The MDC Neuromuscular Conference 2020 will take place from November 7 to 8, 2020 at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto. This will be MDC’s first-ever nation-wide conference for people impacted by neuromuscular disorders in Canada. As MDC proudly represents 160-plus neuromuscular disorders, the conference program will develop around the theme “Individually Rare, Collectively Common”.

The theme will be woven in through a variety of:

  • Engaging educational keynotes by scientists, clinicians and individuals with lived experiences.
  • Presentations on symptom management (in the areas of pain, mental health, etc.), clinical care (e.g., establishing realistic expectations for treatments), advocacy issues (e.g., timely access to important medicines), emerging treatments, and updates on clinical trials.
  • Small group discussions and panel discussions where insights, experience and expertise will be shared.

The conference will be fully bilingual and translation services will be available. The sessions will be delivered in plain language. The agenda will be developed by a steering committee comprised of clinicians, scientists and individuals impacted by neuromuscular disorders. In all aspects of our conference planning, we will closely follow the “For Us, By Us” motto. We believe the MDC Neuromuscular Conference 2020 will provide a wonderful opportunity for people impacted by neuromuscular disorders to come together with researchers, clinicians, and industry professionals for a weekend of education and empowerment.
